I have been in the building/maintenance field for over 30 years. My experience covers heating/air conditioning, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and appliance repair.
With over 32 years experience as a Natural Gas Service Tech, I've inspected literally thousands of homes, businesses, schools, day care centers and etc..
These inspections demand being VERY THOROUGH with regards to peoples, safety, health and LIFE. I commit this same comprehensive attitude to every home I inspect.
My inspections are not just a simple "walk thru".
Over the past 30 years or so construction practices have evolved immensely. Some changes have been good, other have not. One example, "Builders in the 70's
"wrapped" their homes in plastic, thinking tighter is better! Unforntunately this led to houses that couldn't breathe. This has led to higher occurances of mold/mildew, allergies, carbon-monoxide poisoning, and other serious health concerns. Experience is very beneficial in the home insection field. Knowing when a home was built, and what construction practices were used during that particular period is important.
I am listed by the Mesothelioma Foundation as an approved inspector for asbestos.
I have also attended a class offered by the Michigan State Police on how to identify homes where Crystal Meth has been prepared. It has been found that these homes retain these drugs for a long period of time.
Unfortunately there is very little criteria for being a home inspector. Just about anyone can call themselves a home inspector. You owe it to yourself to find someone with experience, and also someone who is certified " TESTED" as well as being registered.
